Kasane Winter Glories

When winter comes, the first thing that comes to our minds as human beings, are jerseys, hot coffee, blankets. We want to stay indoors and in our blankets and jackets all day and watch TV... which is something animals don’t have a luxury to do, they have their own strategies and activities they partake in, in the dry season. Today our main focus is the North of Botswana, where the beautiful and wildlife enriched village/semi town of Kasane,
Chobe is located. Chobe is one of ,if not the richest regions with safari and wildlife in the country, many different species of wild animals are found here, from Elephants, Buffalos, Giraffes, Lions, you name them! Pure magic. During the dry winter season which starts to  play out around April through out to October, while some animals hibernate , most  animals migrate to the water sources, in search of enough water to sustain their livelihoods. In  which in the case of Kasane, Chobe river is the biggest water source in the area. Choberiver is also one of the biggest nature attractions in Kasane, a perennial river which rises from Angola and joins the Zambezi and flows to the Vic falls. So if you want to go game viewing winter is the perfect time to visit the beautiful serene village of Kasane when animals are concentrated around the water sources. One of the very easiest animals to see anywhere and everywhere is the warthog or “mathinthinyane” as it is called in Setswana. This animal as become almost domesticated, it is a friendly day to day animal that you are bound to meet when just navigating around Kasane with your everyday life chores. [pics taken by my door]. Bye Bye Summer: Braais,Bonfires and other things

Hey hey!! Its been a little while since our last post...but we are BACK!
In our very temporary absence *LOL*You may have noticed that:
The days are getting shorter, the nights are getting colder...The cool morning breeze, has become icy, trees are losing their leaves, and well its generally becoming colder. Botswana experiences her winter from late May through to August,so its quite safe to say Winter is here.

Too many people shrivel up and choose to hibernate during this time, not on at all!!
And wait wait waaaaiiitt, before you justify staying indoors......we must admit, the music festivals, picnics, game drives, camping etc aren't too fun in Winter BUT that's absolutely no excuse to Not have fun or travel.
In the upcoming weeks,we will share with you where, how and when to enjoy Botswana in the Winter.

Lets start with a personal favourite..something we can all do,Bonfires and Braais (BnBs).

One of the most chilled ways to kick back and relax on a Winter day, evening or night, is with a group of friends, around a bonfire and braai stand. The most awesome thing is tha,t this can be done right in your own backyard. If you feel like going out, many different game reserves, national parks offer facilities. In all 4 corners of Botswana, there's a place to just hang out and chill...for example,we have but not limited to; the Gaborone Game Reserve,Francistown Club,BerryBush in Tsabong and Chobe National Park in Kasane.
BnBs are friendly to the pocket, keep you warm and filled up too! They are a great way to enjoy the outdoors, and have fun. We've been invited to,and hosted some already...
There's absolutely no need to be bored as we Welcome Winter :)
